We were chatting with friends who were telling us that they had rented a villa, and by the end of the conversation they had asked us to join them for a few days- very nice. We duly booked our flight and arrived at the villa looking forward to a few fun days in the sun.
On our arrival we were given a few ground rules- ' this is my sunbed- I dont like to be disturbed while I read'-- fair enough.'Dont get up too early, we sleep late'-- OK.
The villa was up a steep path and away from any shops so we realised a car of our own would be prudent and asked for a lift to the local rental.'No, two cars would be silly, we'll use ours when we go out. --fine
Next day we sit (in the allotted chairs) schvitzing in the heat and watch while our 'hosts' go backwards and forwards to the fridge with cool drinks and apparently forget that we exist.
We went out when they said, we ate what they said,we longed to be back home in the rain. Finally this nightmare was nearly over and we were ready to leave for the airport. Then the bill was presented to us for half of the villa, the car,the petrol,the food, the drinks-- no such thing as a free lunch huh?
